McCain’s Feelings Hurt By Negative Ads. Come On. Really ?

Posted on 16 October 2008

Maybe I have been watching the Presidential Debate of another country, but I was floored in last nights debate when John McCain actually tried to accuse Barack Obama of running hurtful ads.  What race has John McCain been watching?  Certainly not the one that we have.

Every single commercial from the McCain camp, conservative groups like Our Country Deserves Better, P.A.C. and every Sarah Palin speech has been an attack on Barack Obama, and insinuations about terrorism.  The last 3 weeks of his campaign have been centered on Bill Ayers and Obama’s association with him on a charity board. No matter how much  the American people keep saying “we don’t care” and “get over it“, the McCain campaign will not let it go and they have ridden the issue all the way to the bottom of the polls.  If they are so one sided as to keep beating an issue to death that not many people care about , how can they be in tune with what we want, and need as a country, and what is in the best interest of all of us.

John McCain is the pot in the old kettle metaphor. To say that Barack Obama scored a hat trick in the third and final debate is an understatement.  McCain looked like he was in the stone age.  He seemed  bitter that Obama would not participate in “Town Hall ” type debates and seemed to suggest that , that refusal was the reason for negative campaigning.  In other words, what John McCain seemed to say was, “You didn’t want to do it my way, so screw you“.  And that seems to be a continuing theme with John McCain.  The candidate that says he now wants to work across party lines, seems to not be able to budge once he gets his mind set.

Barack Obama once again kept his cool, and eloquently made his points clearly. John McCain made continuous attacks that Obama wants a larger government, while McCain wants less government.  Less government regulation, and consumer protection is how we got into this mess to begin with.  John McCain seems to be living in a fantasy land that we can continue down that same road and trust large corporations to “do the right thing”.  The last 8 years have proven that we cannot.

On the issue of William Ayers, McCain took Joe Bidens bait and went on the attack about Obama’s association with him.  Barack Oboama returned the serve and smashed McCain’s unfounded accusations and put his association with Ayers on the table, and pointed out that many respected members of the community and educational scholars, both Democrat and Republican were on that board and that they were appointed by a fellow Republican and associate of President Ronald Regan.  Sen. Obama also reiterated that he was 8 years old at the time of Ayers alleged actions, and has denounced them repeatedly. (I was hoping to hear Obama bring up the head of John McCain’s transition team, William Timmons, who lobbied for of all things, Sadaan Hussein, former leader of Iraq and sponsor of terrorism according to the Bush administration? Unfortunately it was not mentioned)

That seemed to put the issue to rest finally, although somehow I don’t think that Sarah Palin would get the message because it would mean learning a new script  with some substance as we approach election day.  I don’t see that happening.

John McCain came off in this debate as condescending, bitter, stubborn, and pissed off that he is tremendously behind in the polls. His facial expressions and reactions did not show the temperence of a man that I want representing the uniased leadership of this country,   It seemed as if he (McCain) came into tonight’s debate looking to satisfy his conservative base, (which would follow him off of a cliff as long as he was waving an American flag), but in doing so  he did nothing to convert, or sway independents , and further alienated those that were looking for something to trust in a John McCain Presidency, and that he actually gets it…..We do not want to give tax breaks to big corporations because many of them have just screwed us, and we still have to bail them out.  McCain doesn’t get that , and at this point in the campaign, and probably his life, he will never get it.
