There is no doubt that Muntaderal-Zaidi, the Iraqi journalist that threw not one, but 2 shoes at President Bush in a Baghdad press conference, is by now realizing that no matter his disgust for the President, that he was actually free to show it without losing his life on the spot, as he would if he had performed the same action under Saddam.
While I am still perplexed as to why our own Secret Service did not draw an arsenal of automatic handguns as the fist shoe soared through the air, or how he was able to rear back to launch number 2 without the assistance of a head shot putting him back in his seat, the fact that he even dared is remarkable expression of freedom in itself.
To say that the reporter himself throws like a girl is too easy, being a mere 10 feet away, yet still unable to make contact with a 60 year old man. Credit has to go to the President who dodged the incoming Florsheim’s faster than Dick Cheney dodged questions after his hunting accident…if only his hunting buddy had been so quick.
I am no fan of George Bush, but I do respect the office of the Presidency. Never have I seen a U.S. President disrespected so, and the journalist, who was unable to remain unbiased in order to report the news, should write his next story thanking his lucky starts that he does not live in a regime that would have not only beheaded him for such disrespect, but rounded up his family and thrown them in prison before his body hit the floor.
