Today President Elect Barack Obama announced his National Security team, headed up by Hillary Clinton, bitter rival on the campaign trail, and now, Secretary of State of the United States of America. Former President Bill Clinton =, of course has no role in the new administration, but I for one, am very happy to keep such close ties to one of the few administrations that actually worked well, balanced the budget, and presided over one of the strongest economic growths since FDR.
It takes a strong leader to appoint a team embedded with rivals. A big difference from the outgoing administration that was laced with yes men that dare not disagree strongly with the President, or prepare to pack their bags when those concerns were ignored. Some willingly, some were most likely escorted off the
grounds.
During the news conference, Obama called Clinton a woman of “extraordinary intelligence and toughness” who will “command respect in every capital.”
“Hillary’s appointment is a sign to friend and foe of the seriousness of my commitment to renew American diplomacy and restore our alliances,” Obama said.
It will be nice for a change to have a President with an open door policy, rather than the dictatorial rule that waved a mighty sword and have his will be done, no matter how unconstitutional, or idiotic the decision. Hence the mess we are in right now.
The new administration will take over a country in recession, according to the national buerau of economic research, and an unpopular war that we are now embedded in, with no clear cut strategy for exit…ever !
Rounding out the rest of the National Security team, are the same as previously reported:
- Obama also confirmed that he is keeping Defense Secretary Robert Gates in his current post.
- Obama named retired Marine Gen. Jim Jones as his national security adviser,
- Eric Holder as attorney general,
- Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano as homeland security secretary and
- Susan Rice as ambassador to the United Nations.
President Elect Obama has made it clear that he expects his team to function as just that, and that the core vision for the direction of the country is shared by all, but let there be no mistake…the buck stops with him, and he is the leader of such an extraordinary team at such a great moment in history.
Whispers of Former President Bill Clinton, to replace Hillary as Senator for NY are just starting to circulate, which is allowed by the constitution. A former President can hold , be elected to, or be appointed just about any post or office in the federal government after his max term of President.
Senator Bill Clinton ? One can only hope.,
